HOW DO I MAINTAIN AND WASH MY BLUE LOOP ORIGINALS JACKET?
Taking care of your technical clothing is not just a chore—it's a way to cherish and prolong the life of your favorite garments. By washing them the right way, you can unlock a world of adventures while simultaneously reducing your environmental footprint. What more could you possibly ask for?
Product care and sustainability
Product care and sustainability go hand in hand, playing a vital role in minimizing the overall environmental impact of textile products. How long a product can be used before it wears out, how well it is cared for, and what happens to it afterward all contribute to its ecological footprint. To make a positive impact, start by selecting clothing that boasts durability, timeless design, and is crafted from recycled and/or recyclable fibers. But that's just the beginning—how you care for your clothes while wearing them makes a significant difference, not only for the environment but also for the performance of your cherished items.
General washing advice
When it comes to washing, there are some general guidelines to follow. Avoid using fabric softeners, as they not only harm the environment but also diminish the performance of your garments. These softeners leave a coating on the fibers, affecting the garment's breathability and moisture transportation. Additionally, some of the substances found in fabric softeners are challenging for nature to break down and can harm aquatic organisms.
To minimize the risk of fabric damage, make sure to zip up zippers and close Velcro fasteners before washing. This simple step will prevent fabrics from getting caught on sharp edges and minimize pilling. Consider using a washing bag to protect all fabrics and garments, ensuring they remain intact and retain their original shape throughout the washing process.
Impregnate
Most outer garments, especially shell layers and insulation garments, come with DWR (durable water repellency) treatments. These treatments are designed to make the outer fabric water-resistant. However, after a few seasons, the DWR may wear off, causing the outer fabric of your shell layer to become wet despite the membrane's water-repellent properties. When this occurs, fear not! You can easily reapply the DWR using a wash-in product or spray. Check out our webshop or consult one of our trusted dealers to get your hands on OrganoTex, an organic DWR solution.
By embracing a mindful approach to product care, you not only extend the lifespan of your cherished garments but also contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly world. Let's protect our environment while embarking on countless new adventures with our beloved Blue LOOP Originals pieces.
